PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Attorney General Peter Neronha announced today that a Providence man has been found guilty in Providence County Superior Court of murdering 40-year-old Mohsin Muhammad and mutilating the victim’s dead body.

On July 17, 2025, following the conclusion of a four-day trial, Superior Court Justice Maureen Keough found 27-year-old Troy Ingram guilty of one count of first-degree murder and one count of mutilation of a dead human body.

Ingram was remanded to the ACI pending a sentencing hearing scheduled for October 24, 2025.

“We are grateful that justice has been served for Mr. Muhammed and his family following this terrible crime,” said Attorney General Neronha. “I hope this verdict provides some semblance of peace for everyone affected, and I thank the Providence Police and the attorneys in my office for their hard work on this difficult case.”

During the trial, the State proved that on July 20, 2019, Ingram murdered and mutilated Mohsin Muhammad at the victim’s apartment.

In the early hours of July 21, 2019, Providence Police responded to Muhammed’s Jewett Street apartment following a report of a suspicious death. Police found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood, with his head fully decapitated and his right arm partially severed. Investigators found a large knife and two shovels near his body.

The following day, investigators questioned Ingram about the murder, at which time he provided a detailed confession. After Ingram entered Muhammed’s apartment, which he believed to be empty, Muhammed confronted him and told him to leave. Once out of Muhammed’s apartment, Ingram retrieved a shovel, lured Muhammed to the front door, and struck him repeatedly in the face and head, bludgeoning him to death. Ingram also confessed to decapitating and partially dismembering parts of Muhammed’s body with a knife before fleeing the scene.

Assistant Attorney General Dan Guglielmo and Special Assistant Attorney General L. Gregory Abilheira of the Attorney General’s Office and Detective Angelo A’Vant (ret.) of the Providence Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
