LAWRENCE, Mass. – A Massachusetts son was arraigned for murder Tuesday in Lawrence District Court, the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker confirms.
On Monday night shortly before 10:30 p.m., the Lawrence Police Department received several 911 calls reporting gun shots on Farnham Street in Lawrence. Upon arrival, they located 51-year-old Alexis Rodriguez Martinez of Lawrence with numerous gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced deceased. 26-year-old Elvin Joaquin Rodriguez, the son of the deceased man, was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and later charged with murder.
Appearing in Lawrence District Court before the Hon. Stephen Geary today, he faced charges of murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building. He pled not guilty to all charges, and the judge ordered him held without bail, without prejudice.
Rodriguez is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on October 22nd.
A friend of Martinez told Fall River Reporter that he was an amazing friend, father and son.
“He loved his boys so so much. I am in complete shock as everyone is too that was close to him. His life was his boys. Everything he did was for his boys. We cannot wrap our heads around that his son that he loved so much and did everything for did this to him. His son served in the military and his father was always proud of him. I don’t know why he did this to his dad.”
Assistant District Attorney Breanna Doud represented the Commonwealth, with Jocelyn Pichardo serving as victim/witness advocate. The defendant was represented by attorney Chris Norris. The Commonwealth moved to impound records in the case and Judge Geary granted that request.
The investigation into the fatal shooting includes the Lawrence Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Tucker’s office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
