24- and 33-year-old Newport men accused of sexually assaulting another man

The Newport Police Department is announcing the arrest of 24- year-old Juan Carlos Montepeque-Albizures and 33-year-old Alvaro Gomez-Alvarez in connection with a reported sexual assault that took place on November 18, 2024. The incident involved a 27-year-old male victim who reported being assaulted by two male suspects at a residence in Newport. 

Following an investigation, detectives from the Newport Police Criminal Investigative Division identified Juan Carlos Montepeque-Albizures as one of the suspects involved in the crime. He was arrested at his residence located at Broadway, Newport, RI, and has been charged with First Degree Sexual Assault (RIGL11-6-1) and Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Assault (RIGL11-1-6). Detectives identified Alvaro Gomez- Alvarez as the second suspect and was also arrested at his place of employment and charged with First Degree Sexual Assault (RIGL11-6-1) and Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Assault (RIGL 11-1-6). 

In the course of the investigation, search warrants were executed at both Albizures’ residence and another location at Kingston Ave, Newport, to gather potential evidence related to the assault. 

After being transported to the police station, Montepeque- Albizures and Gomez-Alvarez were interviewed, booked, and processed.
