FREETOWN, MA – A local man is facing some disturbing charges.
According to Lieutenant Benjamin Levesque, 23-year-old Brendan D. Nunes of Assonet, MA, was located and arrested by members of the Freetown Police Department on Friday. His arrest followed an investigation conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Troop D Detectives, in collaboration with Freetown Detectives Shane Kelley and Christopher Medeiros.
Subsequent to the investigation, a warrant was issued for Nunes’ arrest. Nunes is alleged to have committed several offenses, including rape, drugging for sexual intercourse, strangulation/suffocation, intimidation of a witness, and three counts of assault and battery. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bristol County House of Correction, where he is being held on $50,000 cash bail. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday in Fall River District Court.
“Our officers, working closely with the Massachusetts State Police, demonstrated strong investigative work that led to this arrest,” said Police Chief Scott M. Rose. “This case reflects our commitment to thoroughly investigating serious crimes and holding offenders accountable.”
