22-year-old Fall River man held without bail after arrest on several drug and gun charges
A reported short pursuit resulted in the arrest of a Fall River man on multiple gun and drug charges.
According to police, on Thursday afternoon, CAST detectives were patrolling the area around Hartwell Street and Rodman Street. During their proactive patrolling, they observed a male known to them, 22-year-old Jullianni Berrios. Jullianni is currently the suspect in a firearms related investigation. While being observed, Jullianni was exhibiting signs and characteristics of being armed with a firearm. Jullianni was wearing a cross-body purse and appeared to have an item consistent with a firearm. Detectives were already aware, and still confirmed anyway, that Jullianni does not possess a license to carry a firearm.
PD noted that officers and especially the CAST members receive specific training in these firearm related observations which, backed with training and experience, are court recognized tools for establishing reasonable suspicion for conducting a stop.
CAST detectives conducted a stop and ordered Jullianni out of the vehicle. Jullianni was still wearing his purse when detectives began to remove it from his shoulder to conduct a pat frisk for weapons. As they removed the purse, Jullianni ducked under the straps and attempted to flee on foot. Despite getting the initial jump on the detectives, Jullianni’s jog across Plymouth Avenue was cut-short as a detective warned the fleeing Jullianni, “I’ve got the dog!” Unbeknownst to Jullianni, police did not have a police K9 present to assist.
A search of Jullianni’s purse revealed a Smith & Wesson M&P .40cal pistol with a defaced serial number loaded with 10rds of ammunition, approximately 151 grams of suspected crack cocaine and over $1000 in currency.
Jullianni was placed under arrest without incident on the following charges:
• Carry Firearm without License
• Carry Firearm without License Loaded
• Possess Large Capacity Firearm
• Possess Large Capacity Firearm in Commission of Felony
• Possess Firearm with Defaced Serial Number During Commission of Felony
• Trafficking Cocaine 100 Grams or more
• Disorderly Conduct
• Disturbing the Peace
Court records show that at Thursday’s arraignment, Berrios pled not guilty and was held without bail on dangerousness. A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
