22-year-old driver facing list of charges after head-on crash on Route 44 leads to injuries
A Massachusetts man is facing a half dozen charges after a head-on highway crash on Tuesday resulted in injuries.
According to police, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Rehoboth Ptlw. Alora Clemens was traveling eastbound in the area of 119 Winthrop Street (Route 44). At this time, she observed a gray Honda Accord traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. In addition to the high rate of speed, Ptlw. Clemens observed the Honda cross over the center line, enter the eastbound lane of travel. The Honda then struck a Dodge Caravan that was traveling eastbound on Winthrop St. head on. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage as a result of the crash.
The operator of the Caravan, a 39-year-old Rhode Island woman was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The operator of the Honda was identified as 22-year-old Jacob Larsen of Avon, Massachusetts. He was also transported to a local hospital for injuries he suffered.
During the investigation of the crash, Larsen displayed signs and symptoms of intoxication of alcohol. Based on the results of the investigation, Larsen was taken into custody.
He is due to appear in Taunton District Court for arraignment on the charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operation of a Motor Vehicle after License Suspension, Speeding., Marked Lanes Violation, and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt.
