A local man is facing several charges after allegedly leading Massachusetts State Police on a chase before a crash.

According to Massachusetts State Police, on Wednesday at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Trooper from SP-Dartmouth reported a vehicle failing to stop on Route 24 southbound. The vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed from Route 24 to Interstate 195 eastbound, then onto Route 88 to Route 6 West. The vehicle crashed on this road in the town of Westport.

The operator, Tyvaughn Petifort, 21, of New Bedford, was arrested for: Failure To Stop; Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle; Operating With a Suspended License; Speeding; Marked Lanes Violation; Leaving the Scene of Property Damage; and Concealing a License Plate.

According to court records, Petifort was held on $500 cash bail after pleading not guilty at Wednesday’s arraignment.

A bail revocation mittimus was issued for 90 days on behalf of New Bedford District Court due to an arrest in June for failure to stop for police and other driving related charges.

His next scheduled court appearance is a pretrial hearing on September 12th.
