21-year-old New Bedford man facing list of charges after triple stabbing

Fairhaven Police Detectives have arrested and charged a New Bedford man following Sunday night’s triple stabbing.

According to police, 21-year-old Gavin Massas has been charged with the following:

• Assault and Battery with Dangerous Weapon (Firearm)

• Assault with Intent to Murder with a Firearm (Two Counts)

• Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife)

• Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon with Severe Bodily Injury (Knife)

• Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License

• Disorderly Conduct

• Disturbing the Peace

On Sunday, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Fairhaven Police responded to a report of a stabbing outside of a home on Cherry Street following a fight. Three people suffered knife wounds, and one victim was critically injured.

Through a preliminary investigation, Detectives identified Massas as the suspect.

At the scene of the stabbing, Fairhaven Police located a firearm carried by Massas. Following a thorough investigation, he was located and taken into custody without incident on Tuesday.

The incident remains under investigation by Fairhaven Police and Massachusetts State Police.

According to court records, Massas was arraigned today at Third District Court in New Bedford and pled not guilty. He is being held without bail pending the result of a dangerousness hearing on January 16th.

A preliminary investigation determined the incident was not a random act, and the victims and suspect are known to each other.
