
A local motorcycle rider who died from injuries sustained in a crash is being remembered as services are announced.
Acushnet Police and Fire Departments responded to the intersection of South Main Street and Jean Street for a report of a motor vehicle versus motorcycle accident on September 24th at approximately 9:15 p.m.
On arrival, first responders located a motorcycle lying in the roadway next to a vehicle and the lone rider, a 21-year-old male, on the ground nearby. The victim was unresponsive at the scene and medical care was provided by members of both departments. The victim was stabilized and transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Trauma Center in New Bedford by Acushnet Fire & EMS Paramedics, where he was stabilized and subsequently transported to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center in Providence.
Jeremy Viera of Fairhaven died from his injuries on September 27th.
According to an obituary, Viera “had a deeply caring and selfless spirit. His desire to become an organ donor reflected his wish to help others and give the gift of life. Jeremy was also a gifted athlete who enjoyed playing many different sports.”
