The young man killed in a Rhode Island plane crash on Monday is being remembered as his services are announced.

According to the Westerly Fire Department, after noon on Monday, Westerly Dispatch alerted their volunteers to reports of a plane crash, initially believed to involve a fire.

It was quickly determined that the aircraft had crashed in a field near Stop & Shop on Airport Road, on the opposite side of the airport.

Engine 3 arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed there was no fire, while also requesting an additional tone for manpower. As a precaution, crews stretched a 2½-inch handline while EMS personnel tended to the pilot. Tragically, the pilot later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Representatives from T.F. Green Airport, the NTSB, FAA, and Rhode Island State Police, WPD all responded to the scene.

The pilot has been identified as 21-year-old Isaac Seekell from Charlestown, RI. Seekell attended Chariho High School and played soccer for Word of Life Bible Institute in New York. He attended a local flight school.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, by Charlestown Ambulance, Seekell was an avid pilot, a member of the Charlestown community and a loyal employee to the town of Narragansett.

Abigail, Isaac’s younger sister is a member of the Charlestown Ambulance Rescue Service.

An obituary noted that Seekell “was employed at Westerly Aviation as a certified flight instructor. He earned his CFI and CFII certifications, instructing students in fundamental flight maneuvers and providing advanced instruction in how to fly ‘instruments-only’ in low visibility conditions. He also worked as a high school and club level soccer referee and for the Town of Narragansett in their IT department.”

“He was actively involved in the ministry of Perryville Bible Church in Wakefield, RI where worshipped and served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with his whole heart. He was passionate about sharing the gospel in open-air evangelism, international missions trips, and with people he met as he walked through his daily life. Those closest to him describe him as humble, servant-hearted, and intentional in relationships. He had a playful, quick-witted spirit that often brought smiles and laughter to others.”

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 3-7 pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI. A celebration of Isaac’s life and faith will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 10 am at Perryville Bible Church, 220 Moonstone Beach Road, South Kingstown, RI with a reception to follow. Burial will be private.
