2 members of Fall River Police Department receive high honors for courage
Yesterday at the Massachusetts State House, the 34th Annual Trooper George Hanna Awards were presented. Officer David Gouveia and Sergeant J.T. Hoar of the Fall River police department were awarded the Medal of Valor for their actions during a shootout with a murder suspect from an incident that occurred in Tiverton,RI.
If you recall Edward Acquisto, 80, of 115 State Ave. in Tiverton Rhode Island, shot John Cloud, 81, of Kingston, Massachusetts, during a prearranged meeting over money at the Pocasset Hill Cemetery on on June 13, 2016. Cloud died from the gunshots.
Acting Chief Albert Dupere as well as several other members of the department attended. Officer Gouveia and Sergeant Hoar were also presented with official citations from Representatives Alan Silvia, Carole Fiola and Senator Mike Rodrigues. The Hanna award is the highest level of recognition for acts of heroism in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
