Two young adults from Massachusetts were killed in a fiery weekend crash.

According to State Police, on Sunday at approximately 5:00 a.m., VSP Berlin, Middlesex Fire Dept. and FAST Squad, Montpelier Fire Dept. and Ambulance Service responded to a crash on I-89, northbound in the town of Middlesex, Vermont.

Upon the arrival of first responders, the vehicle was fully engulfed.   The driver and front seat passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The operator in the crash was identified as 19-year-old Sean Delaney. The passenger was identified as 20-year-old Elana Korey. Both are from Duxbury, MA.

Delaney’s employer, Proenviro issued a statement on his passing.

“Sean was not only a team member but family here. He was an amazing young man taken way to soon. He was friend, coworker and so much more to all of us at ProEnviro, as well as everyone he met. Sean brought humor, energy and a strong work ethic every day. He never failed to give his all and help the team. There is a void that can never be filled or replaced, and we will miss you always. Rest in Peace Sean! Our deepest condolences to Bill Delaney, Julie Delaney and Keira, we cannot express our sorrow and the sense of loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Our condolences to Korey family who also lost their daughter in this tragic accident. Though we did not know Elana our prayers are with her and your family.”

The investigation determined it was a single vehicle crash and speed was a contributing factor.
