18-year-old pedestrian killed in collision on Route 44

RAYNHAM — Police Chief David LaPlante and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita report that the Raynham Police and Fire Departments responded to a crash that killed an 18-year-old pedestrian Tuesday morning.

At approximately 6:15 a.m., the Raynham Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to 430 New State Highway (Route 44) for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Crews arrived to find an 18-year-old male from Brockton who had been struck by a vehicle. Raynham Fire crews provided immediate medical care at the scene, then transported him to Boston Medical Center – South in Brockton, where he was later pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a Honda CR-V, driven by a 37-year-old man from Taunton, was traveling west on Route 44 when it struck the pedestrian as he crossed the street.

The driver remained at the scene. Brewster Ambulance transported the driver and a passenger to Morton Hospital in Taunton to be evaluated.

The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Raynham Police Department, including its Detective Division.
