18-year-old Massachusetts teen identified as male who died in apparent drowning

An 18-year-old Massachusetts teen has been identified as the male who died after an apparent drowning this week.

According to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, Adama Sow of Waltham was pulled from the Foss Reservoir in Framingham on Monday afternoon after witnesses reported him struggling while swimming and going under.

Dive teams recovered him from the reservoir, located between Route 9 and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Sow and others had been jumping from a train trestle into the reservoir, a popular but dangerous swimming spot, according to officials.

Waltham Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marisa Mendonsa issued a statement which reads in part:

“It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Adama Sow, a member of the Waltham High School Class of 2026. 

This loss is deeply felt throughout our school community. Adama’s passing is heartbreaking, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his loved ones, friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone whose life was touched by him. Moments like these remind us how important it is to care for one another and to lean on our community for strength and support.

No foul play is suspected, and the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office is investigating.
