17-year-old murdered in Taunton being remembered as 18-year-old arrested for allegedly killing him
An 18-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested Tuesday evening in Medford and is being charged with Murder in connection to the September 19th slaying of 17-year-old Brockton teen Khamitri Cole in Taunton, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
Kareem Gendraw, whose last known address was in Randolph, was taken into custody by members of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Apprehension Section.
Gendraw is being charged with Murder and Carrying an Illegal Firearm. He will be arraigned in Taunton District Court Wednesday.
Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to District Attorney Quinn’s office, Taunton Police and Homicide Unit prosecutors are actively investigating the homicide, which occurred just after midnight last Thursday in the City of Taunton.
At just before 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 19, Taunton Police responded to 351 Lothrop Street after receiving a 911 call regarding a person being shot inside the mobile home at that address.
First responders located Cole, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene of the shooting at 12:45 a.m.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, “Khamitri was a smart, loving, compassionate kid who would give you the shirt off his back, and shoes off his feet. Khamitri has left behind his twin brother as well as 6 other siblings older and younger. He also has many nieces and nephews that looked up to him. Khamitri also leaves behind his unborn son. Khamitri loved basketball and bike riding with his friends.”
The arraignment will be handled by Assistant District Attorney Jason Mohan, who has been coordinating the homicide investigation.
