A local theater festival is showcasing eleven plays in two days with one mission.
The Empowered Theater and Arts Festival will take place Sept 19th & Sept 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Bishop Connolly Theater and Sports Complex at 373 Elsbree Street, in Fall River.
The festival will feature 160 actors, 75 artisans and will create a vibrant gathering space where diverse groups can connect, celebrate local culture and forge a shared sense of civic pride.
Hosted by Spectrum Empowerment Project and the Theater Rats, this event is a weekend long conference celebrating the strides being made in inclusive and accessible theater. Don Lambert, the Programs Director, states that the festival aims to bring together theater artists and practitioners from across the region, giving us all the chance to learn about the amazing work being done and how we can also improve our own work while supporting marginalized communities.
The festival is intended not only for theater artists (students and professionals alike), but also for the neurodivergent community and their families, educators, and truly anyone interested in this ever expanding and heart-warming field of inclusive theater.
In addition, the festival will feature many local artisans and crafters in an outdoor setting featuring art and crafters from across the state.
The festival is highlighted by an exciting fun filled closing awards ceremony, citing the productions and individuals for outstanding performances and theater excellence.
Lambert, a lifelong Fall River resident, is excited to bring FREE live theater to the area.
“Theater Rats is a tuition free, fully inclusive theater company that produces several high-quality theatrical productions each year. The company has been working on this Theater Festival idea for years and we felt that this is the perfect time to bring something positive and new to the community. The festival perfectly fits our mission of “Everyone can Flourish…When Everyone is included.”
Lambert urges the entire city to come out and experience free community theater.
