STONEHAM – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Stoneham Chief of Police James O’Connor have confirmed the ongoing investigation into a fatal crash that occurred Friday on Oak Street in Stoneham.

The preliminary information suggests that, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the 73-year-old operator of a Toyota Corolla was making a left turn off of Oak Street onto Royal Street when an electric dirt bike struck the vehicle. The operator of the dirt bike, a 13-year-old Parker Nobles, was transported to Mass General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Nobles was very outgoing and well-known in the community.

“He had a positive impact on others and always made their day better no matter what.”

While this case in particular is still under investigation, police in Massachusetts have had growing concerns about e-bike safety due to increased accidents, particularly involving young, riders at high speeds (sometimes exceeding 30 mph) and not wearing helmets. Many police departments are responding with a focus on public education, while others are considering stricter enforcement or local regulations, including the potential for citations.

The investigation is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Stoneham Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
