A Middleboro resident is accused of shooting at police who were trying to serve multiple felony arrest warrants this morning at a residence. The man was barricaded inside a home before he was found dead of an apparent suicide. The standoff went on for almost 8 hours.

In a 3:30 p.m. press conference, Middleborough Police Chief Joseph Perkins stated that one officer had been shot at while trying to serve the warrants at 469 Wareham St. at approximately 9:30 a.m. There were approximately 6 officers on scene.

The Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team aided Middleboro Police and deputies from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department after the shots were fired and the male barricaded himself in the residence.

The SWAT team searched the residence and discovered what appeared to be a death from a single gunshot. Every scenario was exhausted until they had no choice but to enter the residence according to Perkins. Once they entered, they discovered the suspect. It is unclear yet how long the suspect was deceased.

The suspect has been identified as John Mann, 36, of Middleboro.
