Newport Police arrest stabbing suspect

Newport Police are looking for the public’s help in locating a stabbing suspect from over the weekend.

UPDATE: According to Newport Police, Edward Kettner turned himself in to Newport Police without incident on Monday May 21 at approximately 8:33 p.m. on the arrest warrant for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon stemming from the incident at Cumberland Farms on Broadway in Newport on Sunday Morning May 20.

NPD thanked the public for their assistance in the apprehension of Kettner.

On Sunday May 20 at approximately 1:35 a.m., Newport Police Officers responded to the Cumberland Farms Store located at 125 Broadway for a report of a stabbing. Officers arrived on scene and located a 28 year old male victim suffering from a laceration to his body. Based on a scene investigation and witnesses, officer were able to determine that the stabbing event occurred after a disagreement between two persons and subsequently identified the suspect in this assault as 35 year old Edward E. Kettner of no known address .

An arrest warrant has been issued for Kettner for Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. The victim was subsequently treated at Newport Hospital and released.
