A call came in at 3:07 a.m. this morning for a fire at 202 Hope Street in Fall River.

According to District Fire Chief Ambrose Smith, fire crews responded at 3:13 a.m.where heavy smoke and flames were showing from the second floor structure.

Adults escaped the two alarm fire out of the front door, while the others made a makeshift rope and escaped from a second floor window. Landing on pillows.

Firefighters aggressively fought the blaze to keep the fire contained to the second floor.

Multiple medical units responded and five residents were transported to Saint Anne’s hospital. Three children were treated for smoke inhalation and two adults were treated for burns. None of the injuries are life threatening.

The fire does not seem suspicious at this time as the preliminary cause of the fire appears to be combustibles too close to a space heater.
