A local man was captured by police after a series of disturbing events reported by witnesses.

According to the West Bridgewater Police, at approximately 11:00 p.m. on July 28, the Department received a cellular 911 call reporting a female party had been struck by a newer model black sedan on East Street in West Bridgewater. Witness reports indicated that the black sedan fled the area at a high rate of speed. As primary units arrived on the scene, they determined the female victim was pushed from the suspect vehicle, thrown into the roadway, and ultimately struck by the vehicle as it fled the scene.

As additional units were responding to the area, they observed the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. They engaged the vehicle and attempted to pull the vehicle over driven by Eric Gagnon, 44, of Hanover. As units attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, Gagnon attempted to elude police by cutting through the lawn and property of St. Ann’s Church on North Main Street while causing damage along the way. The vehicle came to rest and Gagnon was secured without further incident.

The female victim was transported to a Boston Area Hospital for serious injuries.

Gagnon was placed under arrest and charged with the following:

Domestic Assault and Battery
Assault and Battery With a Dangerous Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury
Malicious Destruction of Property
Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Failure to Stop for Police
Speeding

Gagnon is being held on $50,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday Morning in Brockton District Court.
