According to Detective John Robinson, on July 20th, Fall River officers William R. Silvia and Kevin Guerreiro responded to the 1300 block of Slade Street to assist ACO Kate Perry-Borges and MSPCA Officer Chelsea Weiand in checking the welfare of the 71 year old resident and the animals associated with the property. Officers located 15-20 cats on the property but were unable to make contact with the resident. Neighbors pointed out that the resident was at work and provided a location. The female resident was notified and returned to her residence. A welfare check was performed on the animals in the home. 5 deceased cats were located. Several live cats and 1 live rabbit were also located within the poor conditions of the residence.

Based on information provided by City of Fall River Animal Control Officer Kate Perry-Borges and MSPCA Officer Chelsea Weiand, Doris Melanson, 71, will be summoned to court on 12 counts of Cruelty to Animal.
