A 31 year old Fall River man who sexually assaulted a juvenile female in the home he shared with the girl and her mother has been sentenced to serve between eight and ten years in state prison along with five years of probation after his release, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Jonathan Vasquez pleaded guilty today in Fall River Superior Court to a multi-count indictment charging him with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years of age, assault with intent to rape a child, aggravated statutory rape of a child, and violation of a restraining order. The defendant also pleaded guilty to two counts of using a tool with intent to escape when he twice tried to use a key to unlock his handcuffs after he was arrested and in custody at the Fall River Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Silvia Rudman and the prison sentence was imposed by Judge Sharon Donatelle.

“The sexual assaults committed by the defendant against a nine year old child are despicable and can have a lifelong impact,” District Attorney Quinn said. “The defendant took advantage of an innocent child because he had the opportunity to do so. The ten year sentence holds the defendant accountable for his very offensive criminal behavior. I hope the victim can move forward with her life.”
