Fall River, New Bedford men indicted in correction officer assault

WORCESTER — Six inmates at Sousa Baranowski Correctional Center were indicted today on assault charges stemming from a melee at the prison earlier this week, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Six officers were injured in the fight that broke out at about 11:40 a.m. Monday in the K2 Housing Unit. Five of the injured were seen in the emergency room at a local hospital. None of the injuries were serious. The six inmates allegedly started the fight with three correction officers. Several more correction officers came to their assistance and ended the assault.

The Worcester County Grand Jury handed up 18 indictments against the six inmates. They will be arraigned in Worcester Superior Court at a future date. The inmates and their charges are:

Kevin Semiglia, 28, of Chelsea, 5 counts of assault and battery on a correction officer.

Buthchhay Chourb, 29, of Lynn, 3 counts of assault and battery on a correction officer and 2 counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He faces enhanced penalties on all five counts as a habitual criminal.

Jacquan McKenzie, 23, of Lynn, 3 counts of assault and battery on a correction officer. He faces enhanced penalties on all three counts as a habitual criminal.

Tiberias Albert, 25, of Fall River, 2 counts of assault and battery on a correction officer.

Javante A. Antone, 22, of New Bedford, 2 counts of assault and battery on a correction officer.

Jamaul W. Vital, 23, of Medford, 1 count of assault and battery on a correction officer.
