On the evening of July 27th, the Wareham Department of Natural Resources responded to the call of a male that had thrown a dog off of the Point Independence Bridge on Onset Avenue. Reports indicated the man lifted the dog over the wall and dropped him in excess of 12 feet into the water. The suspect then jumped into the water himself.

A resource officer conducted a field interview with the male identified as Kevin Ouelette of 15 Brady Drive in East Falmouth. Ouelette stated to the officers that he did this all of the time and that the dog “likes it”. The dog, a male American Staffordshire Terrier, was uninjured.

An investigation was completed and it has been determined that the dog was not Ouelette’s and he had taken the dog without permission. Surveillance footage showed the dog being thrown over the bridge and landing aggressively in the water.

With assistance from the Animal Rescue League of Boston, Wareham Police, and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department, a complaint has been filed in Wareham District Court.

Ouelette has been charged with Animal Cruelty, Larceny, and Bridge Jumping.

People….. Please!!!!! Dogs are not supposed to be tossed off of a bridge and no they don’t “like it.” WarehamDNR will be pursuing this issue as well as the bridge jumping offense of the human that tossed his dog off the bridge in excess of 12’ into the saltwater below. We are aware of who the owner is and the dog is ok. We will update further when we have completed our investigation.
