District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Falmouth Police Chief Edward Dunne announced today that at approximately 5:25 p.m. Falmouth Police were called to an area of Seacoast Shores Blvd for a disturbance in the street. They encountered the suspect, Malik Antonio Koval, 21, breaking bottles in the street. As they tried to engage him he became agitated and ran into the home at 2 Ashley Drive. Two individuals, Marcus Maseda, 18, and Kimberly Koval, 18 tried to interfere with the officer’s efforts to follow Koval. Koval produced a gun and began shooting at officers. It appears from ballistic evidence that the shots were fired in the house.

Police returned fire in the incident and struck Koval several times. He was med-flighted to a Boston area hospital where he is in custody and in stable condition.

Officer Don DeMiranda was shot in the chest where the bullet was stopped by a vest. A second round hit him in the shoulder area. He is currently in good condition at a local hospital.

Officer Ryan Moore was struck in the neck area causing a grazing wound. He was treated and released from Falmouth Hospital.

Kim Koval and Maseda were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, assault and battery on a police officer, and interfering with the duties of a police officer.

The matter remains under investigation.

“We cannot say ‘thank you’ enough for the outpouring of support from the public. We have received numerous well-wishes, expressions of love & support, gifts of food & coffee, and of course countless thoughts and prayers. We are all thankful to serve such a supportive community.” ~Chief Dunne
