Comcast has confirmed the rumors. Prices are going up.

Talk had surfaced in the last several days about possible upcoming price increases for TV services through the company. Comcast has released the following statement:

“Rising programming costs — most notably for broadcast TV and sports — continue to be the biggest factors driving price increases for all content distributors and their customers. While we absorb some of the increased programming costs, they have a significant impact on the cost of our services.”

According to Digital News Daily, customers could see an increase of up to $13.99 per month starting December 18th. Several fees are going up including tv, rental, and return payment. Most internet service plans will also see an increase.

Comcast just lost 238,000 net subscribers in the third quarter, however, they gained 379,000 broadband subscribers in the same quarter showing that consumers are leaning more toward high speed internet service for streaming.

We asked Acting Mayor Cliff Ponte his thoughts on the Comcast contract.

It’s already way to high, no senior discount no disabled veteran discount.
Constant broadcast interruptions, black screen, frozen screen, no voice.
Without competition they can raise the price to whatever.

COMCAST is pricing themselves out of this market in Fall River. I will pursue my alternatives very seriously. Comcast is constantly asking for more and providing less services.
